Weather Channel (TWC) icon sets

Replacement weather icons for Weather Company (TWC) data

I’ve recently added another FREE look-up table that maps my royalty free weather icon sets to the condition codes used by a popular weather data provider – the Weather Company / Weather Channel (TWC) Weather API Forecast and Observations APIs.

I’m grateful to Tyler S. for sending over the link to the TWC codes (https://ibm.co/TWCICv2). There are 48 condition codes in all, so it was easy enough to match them up to my own icon sets (which have up to 92 weather conditions to choose from!).

I have listed a single icon that represents each of the condition codes, but if you are able to determine whether the code is ‘day’ or ‘night’ specific then you may prefer to use a more appropriate icon. For example, Code 11 is described as ‘Showers’ for both Night and Day. I have selected ‘Cloudy with heavy rain’ (which does not show the sun or moon) so it will work OK for both. But if you are able to make the distinction between ‘day’ and ‘night’ then you might prefer to use wsymbol_0010_heavy_rain_showers for the daytime icon, and wsymbol_0026_heavy_rain_showers_night for the night-time icon. There are ‘light’ versions available too.

Likewise, code 14 (Snow Showers) is represented by ‘Cloudy with heavy snow’, but you may be able to use wsymbol_0012_heavy_snow_showers for daytime, and wsymbol_0028_heavy_snow_showers_night for the night-time icon. Again, there are ‘light’ versions available too.

One final point – Code 21 is described as ‘Haze’. The TWC icon shown on their list is actually identical to ‘Foggy’ and ‘Smoke’. I have used ‘hazy sun’, but you may prefer to try ‘mist’, for which there are day and night versions available. For what it’s worth, my icon sets have separate icons for ‘mist’, ‘fog’ and ‘smoke’, so either way, you’ll have everything you need!

If you are creating your own weather application, and are using data from a different supplier, and you would like me to create a lookup table for you, please feel free to get in touch. I’d be happy to map the icons for you, and add the table to my list!
