This special collection containes 3 packs, each containing a complete set of weather icons at four different pixel sizes - 256x256, 128x128, 100x100 and 64x64 to suit any web-based weather application. Also included is a handy legend showing each symbol image and description.
Here's what you get:
SET 1 : PNG images on solid backgrounds (set of 40, at 4 different sizes).

Designed by former BBC TV Graphic Designer Mike Afford specifically as an alternative for those wanting to use the famous BBC symbols without the worry of potential copyright infringement.
This symbol set has been designed to retain the 'feel' of old-school TV graphics, but has been redrawn from scratch and with enough variation in colour, curve and position of the various elements to distance itself from the original inspiration.
These weather icon sets include three variations of cloud colour.
Sets 1 and 3 include a full set of 'night-time' versions

What weather types are included in these symbol sets?
These sets were originally based on the BBC Weather Centre's own weather codes, so cover the usual range of weather types all the way from 'scorchio' to 'cacking it down'.
Here's the full list of weather symbols from sets 1 and 3 (note that the weather symbols in Set 2 have transparent backgrounds so only include separate night-time versions for the various types of 'showers').

Are these weather symbols animating?
Set 3 includes animated GIFs, so the raindrops drop, the snowflakes fall, and so on. Sets 1 and 2 are static PNGs and do not move.
What are the differences between the three symbol sets?
We've tried to make these sets suitable for a range of multi-media weather applications - the symbols either appear static on a coloured background (Set 1), animating on a coloured background (Set 3), or static on a transparent background (Set 2). Here's a summary -
Weather Symbol SET 1 : 40 classic icons for every type of weather on a coloured background including night-time versions (PNGs).
Weather Symbol SET 2 - 32 symbols each on a transparent background - ideal for placing on your own TV-style weather map (PNGs with transparency).
Weather Symbol SET 3 : 40 animating symbols (animated GIFs).
Can I purchase each weather symbol set separately?

Are these weather symbols royalty free?
Yes they are. Once you've purchased them you can use them as many times as you like for personal or commercial projects without ever having to fork out another bean. Please do check the Terms and Conditions first though - notice you may not resell them or give them away!
Are these symbols the same ones that appear on the BBC?
The symbols for sale on this page are NOT the 'classic' BBC versions.
This set was made in response to many requests for a complete downloadable set of the real BBC ones which are, of course, protected by copyright, and their unauthorised use is not permitted.
Can I alter these symbols once I've bought them?
These weather symbols must not be changed or tweaked. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions on the right-hand panel, or get in touch if you are unsure.
What if there's a particular weather type or phenomenon that isn't in this symbol set?
Please feel free to get in touch if you think there's something that should be added to these weather symbol collections so we can include it in future updates.
What about weather symbol vectors?
We have no plans to release a vector edition, but if this is something that you would find useful please get in touch stating your preferred format (for example Adobe Illustrator, EPS, PDF) and a vector set may appear as an update in the future.
